About Dr Christopher Kong San Choon
- Dr. Christopher Kong Sun Chun is a specialist in the field of gastroenterology who was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1999. He completed his training in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Gastroenterology in the UK and was accredited. On the UK Specialty Register in 2007 for both GIM and Gastroenterology.
- Active in medical research, he received his Doctorate in Medicine, in the United Kingdom in 2008 after a 2-year stint in translational medical research using molecular and microbiological techniques in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- Dr. Kong is involved in multiple clinical trials and research studies with multiple publications in scientific and clinical journals.
- In an open competition, he was awarded the much-coveted post of Clinical Fellow in Interventional Endoscopy at the internationally renowned University College Hospital, London, UK.
- A recipient of a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship, Dr Christopher Kong San Choon completed his Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London in 2018.
- Dr. Kong performed the first motorized spiral enteroscopy in Southeast Asia in 2019, a new technique that makes it possible to thoroughly examine the small intestine in just 30 minutes versus 6 hours with a balloon-assisted endoscope.
- Dr. Kong helped establish the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Sengkang General Hospital as the clinical lead of the department. He previously served as a Senior Consultant at the Singapore General Hospital and was the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre.
